Vacay Edition: 5 Tips to Staying Fit

School's out. The weather is borderline scolding and Summer is here. If you haven’t gone on vacation yet, I’m sure you’re planning one!

Like most people, we grind out our workouts in the Winter to be ready to show off our bikinis for the Summer. Here are 5 tips I use to ensure I don’t ruin my progress while living my best life on vacation.

  1. Start your day with a healthy meal

It doesn't matter if you’re intermittent fasting (which I pause while on vacay) or not. What matters is starting off the day on the right foot regardless of the time.

On my most recent trip to Atlanta, I ate from the breakfast buffet in our hotel and filled up on fruit, wheat toast, a veggie omelet, black coffee and water. On my 2nd day in the city I choose French toast with fresh fruit and no syrup. Trust me, it was delicious without it and hands down the BEST French toast I’ve ever had. My 1st meal always sets the tone for the day. I mean, who wants to feel sluggish from heavy food first thing in the morning?

  2. Don’t forget about your workouts

Because you’re on vacay doesn’t mean you skip leg day! Depending on your trip location, you’ll likely be doing a ton of walking so you can check cardio off your list! In one day alone, I walked over 16,000 steps according to my Fitbit!

If you normally work out at the gym, make sure you book a hotel that has an onsite gym. If you prefer home workouts, make sure to allot time to complete your workouts in your room.

  3. Drink more water

This goes for during, before, and after vacations. Water is always your friend! Make sure you fill up on water and be sure to bring water with you when going on tours, walks or whenever! During the summer, it’s especially important to stay hydrated. Not only does water hydrate you, it also feels you up. Drinking water before meals causing you to eat less which causes you to inadvertently consume fewer calories.

  4. Get moving

Aside from consistent workouts, one of the best ways to stick to your fitness goals is by moving. On vacations, you’re almost always moving whether it’s touring an aquarium, checking out the animals at the zoo, or taking a stroll downtown. Most people don’t stay stuck in their hotels so this one should be an easy task to achieve. Plan to get out and about while on vacation and get your body moving!

  5. Have fun

You didn’t think it’d be all work and no play right! You’re on vacation so it’s time for some FUN!!! Enjoy your family and friends and make a ton of memories! Go on a boat ride, kayaking, parasailing and anything else that floats your boat. Have that margarita or that ice cream, I mean, it is Summer right! Keep tabs on your eating so you don’t go overboard, but don’t deprive yourself of your favorites. Healthy eating is all about balance.

What vacation plans do you have this Summer?
